Kentucky Bourbon Balls

img_0866 Imagine mini walnut brownies and bourbon!

In my family, we make these every year around the holidays and everyone goes wild for them!  They’re very strong, and even more delicious.  Perfect for a holiday party or to be used in lieu of taking a shot during party games. (we play Spoons every year, and the loser has to eat a bourbon ball.  It gets pretty lit!)

Ingredients:

  • 1 box of vanilla wafers, finely crushed (appr 11 oz.)
  • 1/2 cup of chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts
  • 3/4 cup of powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder (recommend Hershey’s)
  • 3/8 cup of bourbon (recommend Maker’s Mark)
  • 1/4 cup of Crown Royal Vanilla
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons of light corn syrup
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 cup of powdered sugar (to coat the bourbon balls)

*Note- This recipe usually yields about 15-20 bourbon balls.  When I make them during the holidays, I usually triple this recipe for a larger batch that I can share with everyone I love. ♥

Directions:

  1. Stir together the first five ingredients until well blended.
  2. In a separate bowl, stir together the bourbon, whiskey (I’m from Kentucky, yes this matters), corn syrup and vanilla extract until well blended.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the bourbon mixture into the wafer mixture.
  4. Place in the freezer (or refrigerator) for 1-2 hours.
  5. Remove from the freezer.  Roll the mixture into appr. one inch balls, rolling each bourbon ball in powdered sugar.  Cover and chill up to 2 weeks.
  6. Enjoy!
